Gifted Flame

Today, 24th July 2009 we went to York sales as usual.  We had no real plans to buy anything but when we saw Flame we just knew we couldn't go home without him.  Thank you to the very kind ladies we met there who were equally horrified by his condition and who were kind enough to donate money towards his purchase.  Flame is a fabulous boy, very kind and gentle but also very sad.  Yet another cast off from the racing industry.

Flame has run in flat races pretty consisitently for 6 years until his retirement at 9 years old last June.  The following pictures are of Flame upon his arrival at Bank End this afternoon.  Keep watching for his regular updates

21st August

Flame has now been with us for 4 weeks and has already gained 40kgs in weight.  He has lost his haunted and bewildered look and is settled in nicely, he is best buddies with Falcon.  Flame has developed quite a cheeky character and on two occassions this week I have found him standing outside Falcon's stable chatting to him in the morning after letting himself out of his stable.  He still gets very excited at meal times, almost hysterically so but he is a very well mannered chap and a total fusspot

Old Tino

Despite the misleading name, Tino is actually only 4 years old. He is a stunningly beautiful, 15.1hh French horse who was destined for slaughter after having a tiny bone chip removed from his canon bone and being deemed unlikely to race long term again.  He arrived at Bank End late August 2009 and after a period of rehabilitation will be looking for a long term loan home.

Suffolk House

Suffolk House, stable name Dickens came to us today, 9th March 2010 after his owner discovered that the loan home he was in wasn't caring for him and was attempting to sell him.  He's a lovely lad but extremely thin, it's going to take months to get him fit but we'll get there!!

Dickens after 3 months of care.
