Chantelle is a 25 yr old anglo arab. She was used as a broodmare in Southern France all her life. As you can see she has bred far too many foals without the care necessary for a pregnant or nursing mare and her health deteriorated quickly. Bank End Equine Rescue rescued her from the clutches of the meat man in September 2007 and under recommendation was placed in a foster home to be rehabilitated. Alas, we could get no information regarding her welfare or condition, e mails and phone calls were ignored until a French rescue group offered assistance. We decided that the only possible way to find out what was truly happening was to fly to France ourselves. This we did on 10.11.07, 7 weeks after Chantelle had been placed in the foster home who allegedly would give her the intensive care she needed. What we found when we got there beggars belief but her condition had deteriorated hugely and she obviously had not being given the care promised. The pictures you see here tell her story from being found in the hell hole she was in up until May of 2009 in her home in Charente, France where she will live out her days peacefully, being loved. At first glance you could be forgiven for believing that the best thing for her would have been to have her put to sleep peacefully, something we were prepared to do if necessary. In all my years of dealing with horses in such dire condition, not once have I encountered a animal with such a will to live and that "I won't be beaten" glint in her eye. This girl's a fighter and she's going to make it! All our eternal thanks Andrea & Martin, Chantelle's new "parents".
