Bank End Equine Rescue

Welcome to Bank End Equine Rescue, where horses suffering abuse, neglect or who are destined for needless slaughter are given a fresh chance of life in a caring environment.

Bank End Stables were taken on by Toni, a qualified veterinary nurse of more than 20 years with BHS training, as a home for her own horses, three of whom were saved from an uncertain future either from the local York auction, where they were found in appalling condition, or taken on, unwanted, suffering from long term injuries.

Throughout 2007 and together with Brian , her lifelong friend and fellow horse enthusiast, they took on further rescue horses, including a mare and foal, again from York auction and in extremely poor condition, along with many ex competition horses and veterans.  In February of 2008 Bank End Equine Rescue outgrew it's initial premises and moved to a new larger site allowing us to take in more horses in need.  Our experiences made us realise that many horse lovers were unaware of the neglect and abuse suffered by so many equines in the UK, Europe and throughout the world. This abuse is happening, not only to horses raised specifically for the European horse meat trade,  but also to English race-horses, who haven't brought their owners the success they were hoping for, and other competition horse who have not made the grade, ex-hunt horses and even faithful children's ponies who have been repeatably grown out of until  they themselves became old and were callously cast aside. On a more positive note, we also realised that so many of these people, once made aware of this suffering,  would be willing to help needy equines in whatever way they can. With this in mind, we set up Bank End  Equine Rescue as a Not-for-Profit Organisation to:

• Promote education on the abuse of equines worldwide

• Take on equines suffering from abuse, neglect or destined for needless slaughter

• Care for these rescued equines, bringing them back to good health and providing whatever rehabilitation is necessary

• Re-home rescued equines either on a permanent or foster basis, where we can be absolutely certain that they will be provided with the care and consideration that they need

• Encourage and assist in the organisation of the rescue of equines by other horse lovers who can offer a home to a horse or pony in need.
